Nimbu Saab

Nimbu Saab: The Barefoot Naga Kargil Hero tells the story of Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse, the first soldier from Nagaland to be awarded the Maha Vir Chakra.

His battalion, 2 Rajputana Rifles, played a crucial role in the capture and defence of Point 4590, losing twenty-three soldiers in the process. Among them was the twenty-five-year-old captain his men called Nimbu Saab.

To scale a sheer cliff under fire, he took off his boots for a better grip and led his men barefoot into combat at minus ten degrees. He fell securing the heights, and was honoured posthumously with the Maha Vir Chakra.

Written by Neha Dwivedi and Diksha Dwivedi — both daughters of Kargil heroes — together with Neingutoulie Kengurüse of his own family, the book finally gives a quiet hero the remembrance he was long denied.
