About the Book
Operation Sarp Vinash is a first-hand account of the 2003 counter-terror operation in the Pir Panjal that dismantled a terrorist stronghold the locals had come to call a 'liberated zone'.
Conducted by Romeo Force in the Poonch and Rajouri sector, it was conceived, strategized and executed by Lt Gen Hardev Singh Lidder — 'Hardy' — for which he was awarded the UYSM.
More than a record of combat, the book chronicles the re-establishment of the writ of the security forces and the civil administration in the hinterland — the turning point that marked the beginning of the end of militancy in the two districts.
Co-authored with Jaishree Laxmikant — whose previous book Coomar told the story of Maj Sudhir Kumar Walia — it brings to light, with awe and admiration, an operation still spoken of today.
Successful conclusion of Op Sarp Vinash was the beginning of the end of militancy in Poonch and Rajouri. — Lt Gen Raman Dhawan, AVSM VSM
