About the Book

The Tiger of Drass is the biography of Captain Anuj Nayyar, MVC, who fell at twenty-three securing a peak critical to India's victory in the Kargil War.

Over a gruelling two-night battle in the Drass sector, Anuj and the men of 17 Jat destroyed four enemy bunkers under heavy artillery and mortar fire, neutralising tens of infiltrators in close combat.

During the assault on the fourth bunker he was struck by an enemy rocket-propelled grenade, dying instantly but saving the lives of fifteen of his men. For his valour he was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra.

Written by his mother, Meena Nayyar — for whom this is a first book — with co-author Himmat Singh Shekhawat of the Rashtriya Riders, who ride in homage to the fallen and their families, it is a mother's unflinching act of remembrance.
