Vijyant at Kargil is the first biography of Captain Vijyant Thapar, the fourth-generation army officer who fell at twenty-two in the battles of Tololing and Knoll during the Kargil War.
His famous last letter — 'Please come and see where the Indian Army fought for your tomorrow' — has been shared millions of times, and was taken to heart by his father, Colonel V.N. Thapar, who climbed 16,000 feet for two decades to the sangar where his son died.
Told by his father and co-author Neha Dwivedi, with a foreword by General V.P. Malik, the book follows Vijyant's trajectory from a charming boyhood in 1980s India to his commissioning and his tenure with 2 Rajputana Rifles.
It is at once a father's monument to his son and a daughter's tribute to all who have raised the flag — a reminder that it is possible to live a frugal existence and yet a rich, full life.
