Abheet Singh Batth

Biography

Lieutenant Colonel Abheet Singh Batth served with the Army Aviation Corps as a pilot in the 254 Army Aviation Squadron of the Indian Army. On 3rd August 2021, he was commanding an Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Rudra during a routine operational sortie when the helicopter crashed into the deep waters of the Ranjit Sagar Dam Lake near Pathankot. Following the accident, a large multi-agency search operation was launched. Owing to the immense depth of the reservoir, his mortal remains were recovered on 15th August 2021 from a depth of approximately 75.9 metres. His co-pilot, Captain Jayant Joshi, was recovered after an extended search operation. Lieutenant Colonel Abheet Singh Batth hailed from Amritsar, Punjab. He is survived by his wife, Sukhpreet Kaur, and his young son, Ahehran. He was cremated with full military honours at his native place in Amritsar, where his son lit the funeral pyre while Indian Army personnel rendered a traditional guard of honour. Lieutenant Colonel Abheet Singh Batth made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty while serving the nation. His courage, professionalism and unwavering commitment to duty continue to inspire generations of Indians.
