Biography
Havildar Madan Lal Sharma, SM was a brave soldier of the Indian Army who made the supreme sacrifice on 20 September 2016 while fighting terrorists in the Naugam sector of Jammu and Kashmir. He was born on 4 February 1979 in Gharota village of Pathankot district, Punjab, and was the youngest son of Shri Dharam Chand and Smt Dharmo Devi. After completing his matriculation from AVSC Secondary School in Batala, Punjab, he joined the Indian Army in August 1999 at the age of 20, driven by his childhood dream of serving the nation. Serving with 20 Dogra, Havildar Madan Lal Sharma was leading his team in the Naugam Sector when armed terrorists attempted to infiltrate across the Line of Control. During the fierce gun battle, he was severely injured but continued fighting fearlessly to block the militants and successfully helped foil the infiltration bid before succumbing to his injuries. He was posthumously awarded the Sena Medal for his bravery and supreme sacrifice.
