Biography

Havaldar Jorabar Singh hailed from Kangra district, Himachal Pradesh. He joined the Territorial Army in 1993 and served for over 22 years across various operational areas. In 2018, he was deployed in Kupwara with 160 Infantry Battalion. On 20 March 2018, a counter-militant operation was launched in the Halmatpora Forest area of Kupwara district. A fierce gun battle erupted that lasted over 48 hours. During the intense exchange of fire on 21 March 2018, Havaldar Jorabar Singh was seriously injured and succumbed to his wounds. Two fellow soldiers — Naik Mohammad Ashraf Rather and Naik Ranjit Khalkho — also made the supreme sacrifice in the same operation. Havaldar Jorabar Singh is survived by his wife and three children.
