Biography
Nandu Ram Soren was born in Bada Champauda village in Bijatala block of Mayurbhanj, Odisha, and joined the Indian Army on April 27, 1996, at age 19. Over 22 years of distinguished service with the 16th Bihar Regiment, he earned respect as a dependable JCO and accomplished sportsman. During the Galwan Valley clash on June 15, 2020, he led a column and inspired his forces to hold ground at all costs, positioning himself between the enemy and his troops despite sustaining serious wounds. His leadership rallied soldiers to repel the aggression before he succumbed to his injuries. He was posthumously awarded the Vir Chakra on January 26, 2021.
