Biography
Flight Lieutenant Amit Singh nurtured a passion for military aviation from a young age and earned admission to the 99th Course of the National Defence Academy. After graduating from the NDA in December 2000, he proceeded to the Air Force Academy and was commissioned into the flying branch of the Indian Air Force on 15 December 2001 as part of the 168th Pilots' Course. He went on to qualify as a fighter pilot and was posted to the 16 Squadron of the Indian Air Force, based at Gorakhpur, flying the Jaguar deep-penetration strike aircraft. On 11 May 2005, Flight Lieutenant Amit Singh got airborne in his Jaguar aircraft JS-204 on a low-level tactical training mission. Shortly after take-off, the aircraft developed a sudden and severe technical snag. Despite his best efforts to recover the aircraft, it crashed near Devri village in the Khalilabad area of Sant Kabir Nagar district in Uttar Pradesh. He sustained grievous injuries in the crash and could not be saved. Flight Lieutenant Amit Singh laid down his life at the age of 25 in the line of duty, upholding the highest traditions of the Indian Air Force.
