Biography
Lieutenant Mohit Joshi was born on 22 March 1974 at the Military Hospital, Pathankot, to Lieutenant Colonel B.D. Joshi. He joined the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, as part of the 101 Regular Course and was commissioned into the 14th Battalion of the Maratha Light Infantry on 06 December 1997. On 31 May 1998, barely five months into his service, Lieutenant Joshi led his troops on a cordon-and-search operation near Dalbagi village in Tripura. As the party approached the village at around 3:20 AM, they came under heavy fire from the surroundings. Disregarding his own safety, he continued to lead his men from the front even after being hit, upholding the highest traditions of the Indian Army, and laid down his life in the ensuing firefight. He was the first officer of his 101 Regular Course to give his life for the nation. For his exceptional gallantry and courage, Lieutenant Mohit Joshi was awarded the Sena Medal (Posthumous).
