Biography
Sepoy Hungnga Konyak hailed from Longching village in the Mon district of Nagaland. He was recruited into the Indian Army and served with the 40 Assam Rifles, deployed on counter-insurgency duties in his home state. On 17 June 2018, during an operation against militants of the NSCN(K) about three kilometres south of Aboi, the patrol came under attack and the vehicle struck an improvised explosive device. Though seriously injured in the blast, Sepoy Konyak fought back with great courage and put up stiff resistance against the ambush. He initially refused to be evacuated, and was eventually moved to hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds, laying down his life in the service of the nation.
