Biography

Sepoy Rohin Kumar was born in 1996 in Galore Khas village of Hamirpur district in Himachal Pradesh. After completing his schooling, he joined the Indian Army in 2016 at the age of 20. He was inducted into the 14 Punjab Battalion of the Punjab Regiment, an infantry regiment renowned for its brave soldiers and numerous battle honours. During 2020, his unit was deployed along the Line of Control in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir. The LoC in that sector was highly volatile and active, with enemy forces frequently resorting to unprovoked firing. The area was guarded and monitored through posts and continuous armed patrolling by the security forces. On 01 August 2020, Pakistani forces violated the ceasefire and opened unprovoked fire, likely an attempt to provide covering fire for infiltrators. Sepoy Rohin Kumar and his comrades were deployed at forward posts near the LoC in Rajouri. The Indian Army responded strongly, resulting in prolonged cross-border firing. During the exchange, Sepoy Rohin Kumar was grievously wounded and was shifted to an army medical facility, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Upholding the highest traditions of the Indian Army, he laid down his life at the age of 24.
