Biography
Sepoy Gokal Singh served with the 18th Battalion of the Rajput Regiment and was a valiant soldier of the Indian Army during the 1967 Nathu La clash. On 13 September 1967, a fierce engagement broke out with Chinese forces at the Nathu La Pass in the Sikkim sector. Gokal Singh was part of a recoilless gun detachment during this battle. Displaying extraordinary courage, he single-handedly destroyed six enemy bunkers. In the course of this action he was grievously wounded, yet, with complete disregard for his personal safety, he continued to fight the enemy with indomitable spirit and unwavering resolve. For his supreme sacrifice and exceptional gallantry, Sepoy Gokal Singh was awarded the Vir Chakra by the Government of India.
