Biography
Havildar Bhim Bahadur Thapa of 1/1 Gorkha Rifles was deployed in Sri Lanka during Operation Pawan. On 21 June 1989, while leading an assault against LTTE militants near Kontakkaran Kulam in Maruthamadhu, he continued fighting despite suffering severe gunshot wounds and killed two militants before making the supreme sacrifice. He was awarded the Vir Chakra for his exceptional courage and devotion to duty.
