Biography
Second Lieutenant Ramesh Rawat was commissioned into the 1st Battalion of the 11 Gorkha Rifles. As part of the Indian Peace Keeping Force deployed in Sri Lanka under Operation Pawan, his battalion was engaged in fierce operations against the LTTE. On 6 June 1989, fighting the militants with great valour, Second Lieutenant Ramesh Rawat laid down his life and made the supreme sacrifice for the nation. This brave young officer is remembered with deep respect for his indomitable courage and exemplary team spirit.
