Biography

Naib Subedar Dev Karan Singh Burdak was born on 19 December 1982 in Dhani Burdakan, Kaliyasar village, Jhunjhunu district, Rajasthan, into a family with deep military roots. His father was a retired Army soldier, and both his brothers also served in the Army. He enlisted in the Indian Army around 2000 and was posted to the 15th Battalion, The Jat Regiment. Over 22 years of dedicated service, he rose to the rank of Naib Subedar. In early 2023, he was deployed at a high-altitude forward post at approximately 18,000 feet in the Kargil sector under Operation Rakshak. On 13 February 2023, amid extreme weather and heavy snowfall, he suffered severe breathing difficulties. He was evacuated by helicopter to the Military Hospital in Kargil and then transferred to the Command Hospital in Udhampur. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed on 19 February 2023 at the age of 40. His mortal remains were brought home to Jhunjhunu, where a 9-kilometer tricolor procession honored his service. He was cremated with full military honors.
