Biography

Ramdhari hailed from Bhalot village in Rohtak district of Haryana. Born on 07 April 1966, he joined the Indian Army on 12 December 1988 at the age of 22 and was assigned to 2 Jat Regiment. He was later deputed to 34 Rashtriya Rifles for counter-insurgency operations in Jammu & Kashmir. On the night of 12 September 2000, approximately 12 heavily armed militants launched a brazen attack on the unit headquarters in Kupwara district. In the ensuing fierce firefight that lasted several hours, Lance Naik Ramdhari fought valiantly against the attackers. He was seriously injured during the battle and later succumbed to his injuries, making the supreme sacrifice at the age of 34. A stadium was constructed in his native village of Bhalot in his honour, serving as a lasting tribute to his courage and sacrifice.
