Biography
Paratrooper Imtiaz Ahmad Thoker hailed from Shopian district in Jammu and Kashmir and served with 1 Para (Special Forces), the elite Red Devils of the Indian Army. On February 23, 2010, during a search-and-destroy operation at Chinkipora village in Sopore district, militants opened fire from a residential building. Paratrooper Thoker was part of the assault team led by Captain Devinder Singh Jass that stormed the building. During the fierce encounter, the team was attacked from various directions with automatic weapons and grenades. Paratrooper Thoker sustained serious injuries and made the supreme sacrifice along with Captain Jass and Naik Selva Kumar. For his exceptional courage and supreme sacrifice, he was posthumously awarded the Sena Medal. In his honour, a Government Degree College in Shopian district has been named the Imtiaz Ahmad Thoker Memorial Govt Model Degree College.
