Biography

Commander Suresh K Maurya was born in 1970 in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh. He was commissioned as a Sub Lieutenant on 1 January 1993 in the Indian Navy. He completed fighter pilot training and earned his wings in June 1996. In 2003, he was selected for the elite Sagar Pawan Naval Aerobatic Team, flying HJT-16 Kiran Mk.II aircraft. Beyond aviation, he distinguished himself as an excellent swimmer, cross country runner and a painter. On 3 March 2010, during the inaugural ceremony of the India Aviation 2010 air show at Begumpet Airport in Hyderabad, the four-aircraft Sagar Pawan formation performed a downward bomb burst maneuver. The Kiran (IN-078) piloted by Commander Maurya failed to pull up and crashed. He made the supreme sacrifice at the age of 39, serving the nation he loved.
