Biography

Sepoy Ajay Kumar hailed from Bassi Tikri village in Meerut district, Uttar Pradesh. His father Shri Veerpal Singh was an Army veteran, and Ajay grew up in a disciplined and patriotic family. He enlisted in 2011 and joined the Grenadiers Regiment, later deputed to 55 Rashtriya Rifles in Jammu & Kashmir. Following the February 14, 2019 CRPF convoy attack, intelligence indicated terrorist presence in Pinglan village, Pulwama. On February 17-18, 2019, troops from 55 RR and J&K Police SOG launched a coordinated search-and-destroy operation. During the intense 20-hour gunbattle, Sepoy Ajay Kumar sustained critical injuries and made the supreme sacrifice alongside Major Vibhuti Shankar Dhoundiyal, Havildar Sheo Ram, and Sepoy Hari Singh.
