Biography

Major Kunal Munnadir Gosavi hailed from Pandharpur in Solapur district, Maharashtra. He completed his schooling at Kavathekar High School in Pandharpur and graduated from Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce in Pune. Driven by a deep sense of duty, he joined the Indian Army in 2006 after being selected through the Combined Defence Services (CDS) examination and was commissioned into the Regiment of Artillery. During 2013-14, Major Gosavi served in Manipur, participating in counter-insurgency operations that honed his combat leadership. On November 29, 2016, at approximately 5:30 AM, terrorists launched an attack on his artillery unit at Nagrota, Jammu & Kashmir. Major Gosavi immediately swung into action and activated the unit's Quick Reaction Team, leading his troops from the front while simultaneously evacuating injured personnel. During the fierce firefight, he sustained a bullet wound but continued to direct his soldiers with unwavering resolve. He succumbed to his injuries while being evacuated to the hospital. For his extraordinary courage, leadership, and supreme sacrifice in the face of the enemy, Major Kunal Munnadir Gosavi was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra.
