Biography

Havildar Tsewang Rigzin (Service No. 9923125N) was born on 20 March 1966 in Kargil, Ladakh, to Shri Tashi Mutup and Smt Sonam Angmo. He joined the Ladakh Scouts after completing his education. During Operation Vijay on 30 May 1999, while negotiating an 80-degree ice wall at 5500 metres on the Line of Control, his section came under a fierce enemy ambush. Despite sustaining severe injuries from enemy fire, Havildar Tsewang Rigzin fought back with extraordinary courage and killed two enemy personnel before making the supreme sacrifice. He was posthumously awarded the Vir Chakra on 15 August 1999 for his unflinching devotion to duty and exceptional gallantry in the face of the enemy.
