Anand Singh Khangarot

Biography

Naik Anand Singh Khangarot hailed from Jaisinghpura village in the Phulera tehsil of Jaipur district, Rajasthan. Born on 15 September 1965, he came from a family with a martial tradition; his grandfather, Shri Hari Singh, had served as a soldier and was honoured with the Victoria Cross for bravery during the World War. Inspired by his grandfather, Anand Singh always aspired to serve in the armed forces, and after completing his early education he joined the Army, where he was enrolled in the 2nd Battalion of the Rajputana Rifles, a distinguished infantry regiment. During the Kargil War of 1999, his battalion, part of the 81 Mountain Brigade, was inducted into the Dras sector on 4 June 1999. As Pakistani intruders had to be evicted from Indian territory, an audacious two-phase operation was launched to capture the heavily defended Three Pimples ridge — the Black Rock complex overlooking the Dras town and the national highway. In the assault to seize these formidable enemy positions, Naik Anand Singh fought with great courage and laid down his life on 29 June 1999.
