Biography

Lance Naik Bhawan Singh (Service No. 4195647K) hailed from Simayal village, Berinag tehsil, Pithoragarh district, Uttarakhand. He served in the elite 2nd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment (2 Para SF). On the night of 20 March 2007, during a counter-insurgency operation in Lolab Valley, Kupwara district, Jammu & Kashmir, his team engaged four heavily armed terrorists attempting to escape. At approximately 3:50 AM, Lance Naik Bhawan Singh sustained multiple gunshot wounds while closing in on the terrorists. Despite his injuries, he continued fighting with remarkable courage and neutralized one terrorist before succumbing to his wounds. He made the supreme sacrifice alongside his officer, Captain R Harshan. He was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra for his conspicuous bravery.
