Biography

Lance Naik Sunil Kumar joined the Indian Army in 2012 after completing his studies. He qualified as a trained paratrooper and completed over 67 free fall jumps, developing extensive expertise in airborne operations. In March 2018, while serving with 1 Para Special Force at Nahan, Himachal Pradesh, Kumar was attending a refresher training course at Malpura Zone in Agra. On March 23, he participated in a scheduled free fall exercise from an AN-32 transport aircraft at a height of 6,000 feet. During descent, his main parachute failed to deploy as the lines became tangled, preventing him from accessing his reserve chute. He sustained severe head injuries from the fall and was transported to Military Hospital in Agra, where he succumbed to his injuries. Lance Naik Sunil Kumar made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty during training, a reminder that soldiers risk their lives even in preparation for battle.
