Suresh Harsha

Biography

Suresh Harsha was born in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, to a family valuing discipline and service. After schooling at Gandhi School, he pursued officer training at OTA Chennai and was commissioned into the Army Service Corps in June 1968. He specialized in logistics management and supply chain operations across strategic locations. By 1989, after two decades of distinguished service, Major Harsha was deployed to Trincomalee, Sri Lanka, as part of the Indian Peace Keeping Force during Operation Pawan. On March 24, 1989, during a reconnaissance mission, an abandoned bicycle rigged with an IED detonated with immense force, striking his jeep and causing severe injuries. Despite being wounded, he led counter-fire against LTTE militants for over an hour. He was evacuated but succumbed to his injuries, giving his life in service of the nation.
