Biography
Naib Subedar Duraisamy Stanislass hailed from Valavanur in Viluppuram district of Tamil Nadu. He joined the armed forces and was recruited into the 17 Engineer Regiment of the Corps of Engineers, one of the oldest and most distinguished arms of the Indian Army. As a part of this esteemed regiment, Naib Subedar Duraisamy Stanislass was involved in critical infrastructure development, combat engineering support, and various operational assignments that strengthened the nation’s defence capabilities. By 1994, his unwavering commitment and exemplary service had earned him a well-deserved promotion to the rank of Naib Subedar. In 1994, he was serving with the 17 Engineer Regiment, deployed in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, stationed at the Badami Bagh Cantonment. On March 29, 1994, a high-level team of officers was conducting an inspection of arms and ammunition seized from militants. During the inspection, a sudden and massive explosion rocked the area, triggering a devastating fire. The blast was powerful enough to cause significant casualties and widespread destruction. Naib Subedar Duraisamy Stanislass was among those critically injured in the blast. Despite all possible efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries, laying down his life in the line of duty.
