Biography

Captain Subhash Soraisom Chandra Singh hailed from Mongshangei village in Imphal district, Manipur. Born to Shri Soraisam Jugeswor Singh, he gained admission into the prestigious National Defence Academy (NDA). At NDA, he underwent rigorous military and academic training, honing his leadership qualities, physical endurance, and strategic thinking. His perseverance and dedication led him to the Indian Military Academy (IMA) Dehradun, where he underwent intensive training to become a commissioned officer. Upon passing out from IMA, he was commissioned into 201 Engineer Regiment of the Corps of Engineers. As an officer, Captain Subhash Soraisom Chandra Singh quickly proved his mettle, leading his troops in demanding operational environments. He was awarded the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Commendation for his exemplary service and professional competence. In 1994, he was serving with the 201 Engineer Regiment, deployed in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, stationed at Badami Bagh Cantonment. On March 29, 1994, a high-level team of senior officers was conducting a crucial inspection of arms and ammunition seized from militants. During the inspection, a sudden and massive explosion rocked the area, triggering a devastating fire. Captain Subhash Soraisom Chandra Singh was among those critically injured in the blast. Despite immediate medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries, making the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
