Biography

Sudhakar Ghule was born on 2 May 1965 in Sheroi village, Kolhapur district, Maharashtra. He joined the Indian Army on 12 December 1983 and was posted to the 6th Battalion, The Maratha Light Infantry. On 31 March 1991, during Operation Rakshak, Sepoy Sudhakar Ghule was deployed as LMG Number 2 to block the northern escape route near village Sunur Kalipur in Badgam district, Jammu & Kashmir. He detected and challenged a large group of militants. Despite being wounded in the fierce gun battle, Sepoy Sudhakar pounced on the escaping terrorists along with Sepoy Nivrutti Kotwal and apprehended one of them. He succumbed to his injuries at the age of 25. For his conspicuous gallantry, he was awarded the Shaurya Chakra on 26 January 1992.
