Biography

Major Ajay Singh Jasrotia was born on 31 March 1972 in Gandhinagar, Jammu. He was commissioned into 13 JAK Rifles in 1996 and quickly earned a reputation as a brave and dedicated officer. During Operation Vijay in the Kargil War, on 15 June 1999, his post in the Drass sector came under intense enemy artillery shelling. While his comrades lay wounded, Maj Jasrotia unhesitatingly moved through heavy fire to evacuate six injured soldiers to safety. Despite sustaining serious injuries himself and losing blood rapidly, he refused to leave the battleground and continued rescue operations until he collapsed. His extraordinary courage and supreme sacrifice saved the lives of his men. Major Ajay Singh Jasrotia was posthumously awarded the Sena Medal for gallantry.
