Biography
Rifleman Darshan Lal hailed from Rang Pur Trera village in the Bishnah tehsil of Jammu district in Jammu & Kashmir. He served with the 12th Battalion of the Jammu & Kashmir Light Infantry, where he earned a name for his discipline and dependability. In May 1999, his battalion was moved from the icy heights of Siachen and committed to Operation Vijay, where it was tasked with reclaiming Point 5203 in the Batalik sector. As part of the assault led by Captain Amol Kalia, Rifleman Darshan Lal climbed the steep, hostile slopes to launch an attack on the fortified enemy positions. On 9 June 1999, fighting valiantly alongside his comrades, he inflicted heavy damage on the enemy before making the supreme sacrifice for the nation, falling with Captain Amol Kalia and his fellow soldiers. He is remembered with deep respect for his courage and his unwavering devotion to duty.
