Biography

Mehboob Khan was born on 9 April 1979 in Nagaur district, Rajasthan, into a proud military family — both his father Naik Hussain Khan and grandfather had served in the Indian Army. Following their footsteps, he enlisted at the age of 19 and was posted to 17 Grenadiers. Deployed with 29 Rashtriya Rifles in Kupwara district, Jammu & Kashmir, Lance Naik Mehboob Khan participated in numerous counter-insurgency operations. On 9 April 2005 — his 26th birthday — he was engaged in a fierce gun battle against militants. He successfully eliminated three terrorists before being fatally wounded in the exchange of fire. For his exceptional courage, devotion to duty, and supreme sacrifice, he was awarded the Sena Medal.
