On 2 May 2020, during the Handwara Operation, his column moved into Chanjimulla hamlet to neutralise terrorists who had taken civilians hostage. In the heavy exchange of fire that followed, he fought alongside Col Ashutosh Sharma, Maj Anuj Sood and Naik Rajesh Kumar to eliminate the militants and rescue the civilians, but sustained grievous injuries during the action and later succumbed to them at the age of 25.
