Biography
Second Lieutenant Chaitanya Dubey was born on 3 March 1973 in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, into a military family as the son of Lieutenant Colonel Arun Dubey and Smt Neerja Dubey. He spent his formative years in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, and developed an early passion for aviation and military service. Although he initially aspired to become an Air Force fighter pilot, he ultimately chose to follow his father into the artillery. Commissioned on 6 December 1997 into the 24 Med Regiment, his first posting was at Faridkot, Punjab, where he quickly earned the respect of seniors and peers alike for his sincerity, discipline, and professional bearing. During the 'Garam Hawaa' warfare exercise on 5 May 2000, while functioning as a Forward Observation Officer along the Rajasthan-Pakistan border, the tank he was occupying toppled in extremely poor visibility caused by a severe sandstorm. The injuries he sustained proved fatal, and he laid down his life in service of the nation at the young age of 27.
