Biography

Flight Lieutenant S Achudev was born on 22 May 1991 in Kerala. Drawn to flying from a young age, he joined the Indian Air Force and trained as a fighter pilot. By 2017 he was posted to the 11 Wing at Air Force Station Tezpur, a frontline fighter base in the North East, where he flew the Sukhoi Su-30 MKI. On 23 May 2017, Flight Lieutenant Achudev was airborne on an operational training sortie over Arunachal Pradesh, executing complex flying manoeuvres in the area near the India-China border. During the mission his aircraft lost radar contact and was reported missing. The wreckage was recovered on 26 May 2017 in dense forest in the Doulasang area, nearly 60 kilometres from Tezpur. Flight Lieutenant S Achudev laid down his life in the service of the nation while flying with the Indian Air Force, a day after his twenty-sixth birthday.
