Biography

Squadron Leader Hariharan Vinod hailed from Mulankunnathukavu in Thrissur district, Kerala. He earned an engineering degree from Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore in 2009, then joined the IAF as a short service commissioned officer, receiving his commission in the Navigation branch on 29 December 2011. After navigator training he gained experience across a range of air operations. On 3 June 2019, while serving with 43 Squadron based at Jorhat, Assam, he and seven other crew departed for Mechuka on a logistic support mission. The AN-32 aircraft lost contact 33 minutes after take-off and crashed near the Pari hills at around 12,000 feet. The wreckage was recovered after an eight-day search operation involving multiple military branches.
