Biography

Naib Subedar Ram Singh hailed from Nandpur village in Ramgarh tehsil of Samba district and enlisted in 2005. He came from a military family in which his father and three uncles also served. A trained commando, his exceptional abilities led to repeated postings at the High Altitude Warfare School in Gulmarg and Sonamarg as an instructor. By 2015, after a decade of service across J&K and Manipur, he was deployed in counter-militant operations. On 4 June 2015, during a convoy ambush in Chandel district, militants detonated an IED and opened fire with RPGs and automatic weapons, killing 18 soldiers including Ram Singh. He was awarded the Sena Medal for his courage and sacrifice.
