Biography
Major Neeraj Pandey hailed from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, the son of Ravindra Nath Pandey and Saroj Pandey. He fulfilled his ambition of serving the nation when he joined the Indian Army and was commissioned into the Corps of Signals, the arm responsible for military communications. Over the following years he served in various operational theatres with dedication and professionalism. Major Pandey was deployed with the Assam Rifles in Arunachal Pradesh, engaged in counter-insurgency duties along the sensitive India-China frontier. On 17 March 2016, while carrying out an operational task near Sipra, his convoy was caught in a landslide in the treacherous mountain terrain, leaving him grievously injured. Major Neeraj Pandey succumbed to his injuries, laying down his life in the line of duty. He is remembered with deep respect for his courage and unflinching devotion to the nation.
