Bhoop Singh Gujjar

Biography

Subedar Bhoop Singh Gujjar hailed from Kherla village in the Dausa district of Rajasthan, where he was born on 10 June 1971 into the family of Shri Rajhans Gujjar, a farmer. He had aspired to wear the uniform since childhood, and fulfilled that ambition when he joined the Army in 1992 and was inducted into the Corps of EME. Over a career spanning more than twenty-four years he served with distinction at numerous Army stations, and had the pride of seeing his son Vishvendra follow him into the Army. In 2017, Subedar Bhoop Singh was deployed in Jammu & Kashmir. In the early hours of 27 April 2017, three heavily armed militants attempted to storm the Army garrison at Panzgam in Kupwara district, cutting through the perimeter fence at around 4:30 AM. The alert soldiers challenged the intruders, and a fierce firefight broke out. Fighting the infiltrators at close quarters, Subedar Bhoop Singh sustained grievous injuries and made the supreme sacrifice for the nation, falling alongside Captain Ayush Yadav and Naik Bhoota Venkata Ramana in beating back the attack. He is remembered with deep respect for his courage and his lifetime of devoted service.
