Biography

Sepoy Pardeep Singh was born on 20 April 1996 in Balamgarh village of Samana tehsil in Patiala district, Punjab. From an early age he was drawn towards the armed forces, a passion that took root while he was in the eighth standard. Following his dream, he joined the Army in December 2015 and was assigned to the 15 Sikh Light Infantry. After some years of service he was later deputed to the 19 Rashtriya Rifles, deployed in Jammu and Kashmir for counter-terrorism operations. By 2023 he had completed nearly seven years of service across several demanding operational areas. In 2023 his unit was operating in the militancy-prone Anantnag district, where soldiers had to maintain the highest vigilance. On 13 September 2023, acting on intelligence about hardcore militants hiding in the dense forests around Gadole village near Kokernag, a joint operation with Jammu and Kashmir Police was launched. Pardeep Singh was part of the team led by Commanding Officer Colonel Manpreet Singh. During the fierce exchange of fire that broke out, he was gravely wounded and went missing. His body was recovered five days later. He laid down his life for the nation at the age of 27.
