Biography
Naib Subedar Aram Singh Gurjar was born on 8 July 1974 in Bilai village of Karauli district, Rajasthan. After completing his early education, he was selected to join the Army and was inducted into the 18 Mahar Regiment, an infantry regiment renowned for its fearless soldiers and numerous battle honours. Besides being an outstanding soldier, he was a keen sportsman who remained ever ready for action. After serving with his parent unit for a few years, he was deputed to serve with 51 Rashtriya Rifles, deployed in Jammu and Kashmir for counter-terrorism operations. In January 2017, his unit was positioned along the Line of Control in the Gurez Sector of North Kashmir, an area of remote, rugged mountainous terrain subject to extreme weather. On 25 January 2017, a massive avalanche struck the post at Neeru village in the Tulail area, about 25 kilometres from Gurez town, burying soldiers under tonnes of snow. The suddenness of the avalanche left no time for any defensive measure. Despite a large-scale rescue operation mounted in harsh conditions, Naib Subedar Aram Singh Gurjar and thirteen fellow soldiers laid down their lives while performing their duty.
