Ramesh Chander Rayudu

Biography

Captain Ramesh Chander Rayudu was born on 13 September 1975 in the Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh. From an early age he carried a deep sense of patriotism and was inspired by the valour and discipline of the Indian armed forces, an attraction that grew into a firm resolve to serve the nation in uniform. He worked hard through his school years and gained admission to the prestigious National Defence Academy, later moving to the Indian Military Academy at Dehradun for advanced training in military tactics, fieldcraft and leadership. He was commissioned into the 14th Battalion of the Rajput Regiment, one of the Army's oldest and most distinguished infantry regiments, where his leadership, commitment to duty and personal courage marked him as a promising young officer. In 2000, his unit was deployed in the Kupwara district of Jammu & Kashmir, holding forward posts along the Line of Control amid frequent infiltration attempts and militant activity. On 1 May 2000, when militants launched a well-planned assault on the Indian forward posts, Captain Ramesh Chander led a swift counter-terrorist operation, advancing fearlessly into heavy fire. In the fierce battle he fought bravely and coordinated his men effectively, but was hit by several bullets. Despite prompt medical aid, he succumbed to his injuries, making the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
