Captain Mahendra Nath Mulla showed exemplary leadership and courage as the captain of INS Khukri. He chose to go down with his ship after it was torpedoed by a Pakistani submarine, setting an example of selfless sacrifice for his crew. He was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra.
