Biography
Naik Jidan Bage hailed from Gumla, Jharkhand, son of Suleman Bage and Manonit Bage. After completing his school education, he joined the Indian Army and was recruited into the prestigious 7 Bihar Battalion of The Bihar Regiment. During counter-insurgency operations in Punjab on February 27, 1991, Naik Bage's unit was deployed to neutralize militant activity near Rajewala village. He shot dead Satnam Singh Satta, the Area Commander of the Bhindranwale Tiger Force, who was hiding in the wheat fields. Despite sustaining a bullet injury during the firefight, he continued to lead his section forward to engage the remaining militants. He was then struck by an AK-47 burst to his chest and was fatally wounded. He died en route to the Military Hospital, Amritsar. For his conspicuous courage, gallantry, and devotion to duty, Naik Jidan Bage was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra, India's third-highest peacetime gallantry award.
