Prabhu Shayu Kirke

Biography

Prabhu Shayu Kirke hailed from Semna village in Ranchi district of Jharkhand and belonged to 21 Bihar of The Bihar Regiment. During April 2017, heavy rainfall and snowfall triggered multiple avalanches across Jammu & Kashmir. On 07 April 2017, a devastating avalanche struck the Batalik sector in Ladakh, trapping five soldiers at an army post. The army immediately pressed in specialized avalanche rescue teams and equipment that continued the rescue operation through the night despite inhospitable weather conditions and 15 feet of snow. Despite the valiant rescue efforts, Havildar Prabhu Shayu Kirke, along with Lance Naik Bihari Marandi and Sepoy Lakra, could not be saved and made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
