Biography
Sepoy Vikram Singh was born on 15 March 1983 in Rewari district, Haryana. He joined the Indian Army in 2002 at the age of 19 and served with the 17 Rajput Regiment before being deputed to 44 Rashtriya Rifles in December 2012, operating as part of the Counter Insurgency Force in the Kashmir Valley. On 25 April 2014, during an anti-terrorist operation in Qazipathri village, Shopian district, Sepoy Vikram Singh served as the buddy of Major Mukund Varadarajan. When Major Mukund was gravely wounded after eliminating two terrorists, Sepoy Vikram shielded his officer and engaged the third terrorist at close quarters, neutralizing him despite being shot himself. He succumbed to gunshot wounds to the head and neck during the fierce encounter. For his extraordinary courage and supreme sacrifice, Sepoy Vikram Singh was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra, India's third-highest peacetime gallantry award, in 2014. His bravery was portrayed in the 2024 film Amaran, where actor Bhuvan Arora depicted his role alongside Sivakarthikeyan as Major Mukund Varadarajan.
