Biography

Raghubir Singh Tevatia hailed from Sotai village in Faridabad, Haryana. He enlisted in the Indian Army on August 1, 1983, and served for approximately 17 years with the Jat Regiment. During a counter-insurgency operation in Ganderbal district, his unit engaged terrorists hiding in a building at Badam Pora. After neutralizing four militants, Naik Raghubir Singh was shot at close range while recovering weapons and ammunition. He succumbed to his injuries at 92 Base Hospital, Srinagar, at the age of 34. A government school in Sotai village was named "Shaheed Raghubir Singh Rajkiya Varishth Madhyamik Vidyalaya" in his honour. He is also commemorated with a plaque at India's National War Memorial in Delhi and a statue in his native village.
