Biography

Naik Balwan Singh was born in the peaceful village of Jindran Kalan in Rohtak district of Haryana. Raised in a humble yet deeply patriotic family, he grew up listening to inspiring stories of the valour and sacrifice of the Indian armed forces. These tales instilled in him a profound sense of pride and a keen desire to serve his nation. After completing his education up to the eighth standard, and driven by his dream of wearing the military uniform, he resolved to join the Indian Army. He was enrolled into the distinguished Jat Regiment, renowned for its bravery and rich legacy, and was posted to the 17 Jat Battalion, a unit celebrated for its tradition of courage and excellence. Through his exceptional bravery, leadership and unwavering devotion to his comrades, he soon established his own distinct identity within the battalion. During the Kargil War in 1999, the 17 Jat Battalion was deployed along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir as part of the operations in the Mushkoh Valley under 79 Mountain Brigade. The battalion was tasked with capturing the strategically vital Point 4875. In the fierce fighting for Point 4875 between 4 and 8 July 1999, Naik Balwan Singh laid down his life for the nation. He was awarded the Sena Medal for his gallantry.
