Biography

Anuj Vashisht hailed from Kakrana village in Rohtak district of Haryana. He completed his schooling at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sector 14, Gurugram, and joined the Indian Air Force in 2015. A passionate and disciplined fighter pilot, he rose to the rank of Squadron Leader and served with the 47 Squadron operating the Su-30MKI fleet out of Jorhat Air Force Station. On 5 March 2026, he was the lead pilot of a Su-30MKI that took off from Jorhat on a routine training sortie. The aircraft went off radar shortly after takeoff and crashed at Inglong Ekopi Hill in the Bokajan sub-division of Assam's Karbi Anglong district, about 60 km from the airbase. He and his co-pilot sustained fatal injuries. His wedding was scheduled to take place just days later. His mortal remains were laid to rest with full military honours at his native village on 7 March 2026.
