Biography

Anshu Rathore hailed from Bithura village in the Ladnun region of Didwana district, Rajasthan. Born into a family with a proud legacy of service to the armed forces spanning five generations, she was the first woman in her family to be commissioned as an officer in the Indian Navy, clearing the examination in her very first attempt in 2024 as a Sub Lieutenant. She was promoted to Lieutenant and posted at INS Valsura, Jamnagar. On 5 April 2026, aged 23, she was returning from Pune after completing her professional course to join her posting at INS Valsura. Her vehicle lost control and overturned on Valsura Road near the naval base in Jamnagar, Gujarat. She made the supreme sacrifice while the two fellow officers travelling with her escaped unharmed. Her final journey from Didwana to Bithura was marked by a 14-kilometre-long Tiranga Yatra, with villagers lining the route, showering flowers, and raising chants in her honour. She was laid to rest with full military honours.
